No longer change relationship to professional?

I used to be able to break up; invite to a party; and then use stars to patch things up.
Then it'll be a professional relationship; not a romantic one.
Is there anyways to o it now.
For some reason you can't invite contacts you've broken up to a party now.
I hate having to invite friends to a job; just to be able to gift them; it's way to tedious, especially once I gift more than one person at a time.
