Excess Energy Drink quest bug?

After saying I want to spare my liver during this quest, I think Simon was supposed to call and book an ad/photoshoot instead but I haven't gotten anything like that - only more side quests with Liza, Hiro and Rani. Simon said that what Excess are asking of you is ridiculous and you won't be working with them anymore after this (but nothing else) and Maria doesn't have anything for me either.
I restarted my old file after I had the same issue (chose to party instead, but still no main quests afterwards) and I'm worried the same bug is happening again and I won't be able to get any more story quests.
I found a few posts about it from 2015 and was wondering if there's any fix for it known since then - I really want to keep playing but I don't want to run out of things to do again 😭
