Tasks without a storyline?

I have been getting a lot of consecutive tasks from Simon that don’t have any storyline (added an example). Is there a benefit to doing them apart from gaining fans? Do they unlock a new storyline?

It sounds like these are the hourly  side gigs Simon will call with. he usually tells you about 3 gigs  which do you want? Or you just  tell him to keep looking. They are stand alone,  or side gigs that have nothing to do with storyline.
