Playing on in MultiPlayer

I've played through all 50 levels twice...and now I'm thinking that the real challenge is in the MultiPlayer mode against each other for the long haul. But can you play against each other without "souls"?

For you to access the multiplayer, i believe you need souls. And the way to test if your setup is good is going against players with high point ratings.
