Completely Unplayable since update, FREEZING and CRASHING

I have followed all of the steps that are outlined in the FAQs I have plenty of memory, on my Iphone 5s I have closed all apps running in the backround. But the game just freezes and crashes, I am afraid to uninstall for fear of losing all of my purchased items and gems. Ican't get through a level with a freeze and a crash. Anyone else having the same issue?
