It sets u back 1-4 games depending on how many wins you needed to win the playoff

You get losses, then you get pushed back in your division wins, so if you win the required 40 games to advance to the playoffs, you have to win 2 of 3 to advance. If you tank both of those games, you lose the playoff series, and you go back to 38 division wins.

What you're suggesting is a common strategy, though.
