Is there any way at all to make gold off of Home Run Derby?

I don't ever play because it'll just suck up the gold.

But I didn't know if maybe you could buy a gold slugger that would be leveled up, and then play like the 50 gold one and win over 70% of the time in order to actually make a profit?

Or is it basically just a lost cause, gold soaking game mode?
