Better Sluggers getting cut

So I was buying some sluggers for the Home Run events and I got a Level 1, 4 star, 81, slugger. But he got cut, because I had a Level 10, 2.5 star slugger at 82.

There has to be way to decide who leaves and who stays. I've lost 4 sluggers already who WOULD have a higher slugging, had I been given a chance to level them up.

I believe it's cause your gameplay settings is set to potential instead of (I think) current

It' probably because your setting in gameplan is set to current. Which keeps the better player regardless of potential. If you switch it to potential it will keep the potentially better player of the currently better player
