How do you maximize sitting in bronze/silver

so I had big plans on staying bronze till I had enough resources to move up, I capped my upgrades, sluggers and regular team, but now bonus games and season mode is ridiculous. Season modes cpu teams upgrades are at 30 (at least there outfield defense)..and their players are higher than the current max...asked customer service and they said I should buy boosts and manually play for better outcomes...I had a bonus player today but couldn’t put up points cause of this...I guess I played to many games to take advantage of bronze
