Over the course of the last five years, Racing Rivals has grown into one of the most hardcore racing games in the world. This loyal community has spent countless hours competing in millions of races in “winner take all” fashion – all in the name of Turf Wars and pink slips.

However, all good things must come to an end… After spending time evaluating Rivals and its future – we’ve decided that it’s time to move on. Simply put, the revenue generated from Racing Rivals unfortunately no longer covers the cost of operations. This was not an easy decision to make.

On March 31st, 2019 – Rivals will be racing off into the sunset, and will be permanently shut down. Current players have until this date to utilize any accumulated virtual currency. We’ll be offering some massive reductions in the cost of crates, installs and repairs in addition to a reduction on timers as you race your way into the history books. Effective immediately, no new in-app purchases will be permitted.

In closing, a resounding and sincere THANK YOU to our extremely driven fans for your loyalty and dedication over the years – we hope you’ve enjoyed playing Racing Rivals as much as we’ve enjoyed creating it.

We here at Glu Long Beach took our experience with the Nitto line of games and created Racing Rivals with the intention of bringing the players an epic drag race experience on mobile devices, and we’ve done what we set out to do. Since it’s release we haven’t stopped. We still dedicate ourselves to bringing players even more epic experiences. While we know our game pretty well, we see our game from the inside out, and we realized that no matter what we do or how much we feel we know the game, we don’t see it through the eyes of a pure Rivals player. We’re clouded by the knowledge of the game from the inside. What we were missing was the ability to step back and see the game from a players point of view.

We’re amazed that our players have taken our drag racing game and formed a robust community around it. We’re amazed that there are players out there who just strive to get that perfect tune to get the fastest race times. We’re amazed that there is a strong out of game market for cars. We’re amazed that people take the time to create websites around our game. We’re amazed that people make videos about the game. We’re also amazed by the knowledge our players have, and we’re amazed that they take their time to talk to us about it.

While messaging back and forth is a fine way to communicate in this day in age, especially when players are spread throughout the world, we felt it would be nice to meet some of our players face to face. So we did. In March of 2015 we invited several players to our offices here in Long Beach. They were chosen among active members of the community and they represented differet types of players.

Deemed the Player Council, we had open discussions about the game. Several of our developers and artists participated in the talks. Subject matter consisted of lobby mechanics, turf prizes, fairness, hackers, car stats and more. We also gave them a glimpse at what we have in store for Racing Rivals and what else the Glu Long Beach Studio has coming up in the near future.

While this may have been a once in a lifetime experience for these players, for our team, it was an inspiring event. The players we invited had a vast knowledge of the game and had a lot of well thought out opinions and suggestions. Currently we are working on ways to implement these suggestions, so be on the lookout for some changes. In fact, some of you may have noticed that the turf and racer lobbies work a little differently, and that our top prize cars have an little added bonus to them. We’re still tweaking those out, but those ideas came directly from the council.

We saw this as a great resource and we definitely would love to do this again in the future.
