Over the course of the last five years, Racing Rivals has grown into one of the most hardcore racing games in the world. This loyal community has spent countless hours competing in millions of races in “winner take all” fashion – all in the name of Turf Wars and pink slips.

However, all good things must come to an end… After spending time evaluating Rivals and its future – we’ve decided that it’s time to move on. Simply put, the revenue generated from Racing Rivals unfortunately no longer covers the cost of operations. This was not an easy decision to make.

On March 31st, 2019 – Rivals will be racing off into the sunset, and will be permanently shut down. Current players have until this date to utilize any accumulated virtual currency. We’ll be offering some massive reductions in the cost of crates, installs and repairs in addition to a reduction on timers as you race your way into the history books. Effective immediately, no new in-app purchases will be permitted.

In closing, a resounding and sincere THANK YOU to our extremely driven fans for your loyalty and dedication over the years – we hope you’ve enjoyed playing Racing Rivals as much as we’ve enjoyed creating it.

Hahahaaaa Grim killed Racing Rivals

Honestly it was on it's way out, when they killed the FB community. But i got to say as well meaning as he claimed to be, he certainly F'ed this game up. dropping support for older android, did the same as the killing of FB. It drove away half the player base, by locking them out. From what i've seen the actual gameplay changes did no favors as well

You guys couldn't be further from the truth. The game was going to die before Carbonated took over. They gave it all they could but all the morons killing the rating and flooding bad reviews is what eventually caused GLU to pull the plug.

Well you're gonna say that aren't you- you're a friend of grims and  a member of the player council- fat lot of good the player council did for the game and all us loyal players that ploughed money into it- literally by the thousands of pounds.
if the bad ratings killed it then it's still down to glu/ carbonated- cos if the game didn't sukkkk assss then the ratings and reviews wouldn't have been so poor. Too many excuses and people passing the buck here.
Anyways- 2 days left until the last person out turns out the light.
it was good- no- at one time this game was great!
    RIP racing rivals ✝️

As much as i loved this game, it dying is probably the best thing, Since maybe the devs, will remember (though i doubt it) what caused it. Hopefully the next game they do, will be better for it

I'll say what I said because it's the truth the game was slated to be closed before Carbonated took over. They saw the game was already dying and tried taking it in a direction that would give it a chance to survive. It didn't pan out but we got almost 2 years extra life out of something we all enjoyed and loved. I'm appreciative for that and yes you are right I'm a 3 time Council member but I wouldn't pull punches. Without them this game and our time on it would have ended long ago. The people you guys are really upset with is the company that bought the game from CIE which is GLU. They had no direction for the game and were perfectly fine with the game being destroyed by cheats and just flooding the crates with easy money items for people to by as it died. Carbonated did what they could to keep the game alive and unfortuently it just didn't work.

The game died when they killed all the money we farmed to tune cars, they listened to a bunch of wannabe racers that manipulated turf and some random dude that thought he was a tuner king for a lobby number.

What killed this game....is a combination of bad game design, and the players themselves. The game itself allowed for exploits (farming of RRC in the earlier days, for example....and the insane prices one had to pay if you wanted RRC via the in-game purchases), the offer wall for gems, etc. They literally made it possible for folks to obtain anything and everything in the game for free provided the player had the time, patience, skill, and luck to do so. So, players did what any normal person would do - they found away around the confines of the game itself, and exploited the hell out of them. People soon realized it was easier / faster to do things via the black market. Because of that, the ratio of those that spent considerable money on the game versus those that just bought stuff from other players (with no money going into the game itself from those transactions) quickly shifted.
Glu, in a desperate hail-mary attempt to save the game after the clusterfuck that was 6.0, farmed the development of the game out to Carbonated. But, even then, the damage had been done. Add to that Carbonated not bringing back turf right away (another mis-step that caused people to leave in droves), and that just widened the hole in the bow of an already sinking ship.
The sad part - at the end, the game was actually starting to rebound - it was making money, and the number of daily users was on the climb....it just didn't happen as fast as Glu wanted it to. So, instead of riding it out any further, they made the business decision to cut their losses and shut the game down.
Daniel had nothing to do with it - he was merely the face that everyone "saw", as he was the one that Carbonated put out as the Community Manager. Had Carbonated kept Ryyst onboard and had things still panned out the way they did, everyone would hate Ryyst. It's easy to make assumptions and jump to conclusions based on what you can see....however, as the saying goes - never judge the book by the cover. There was a hell of a lot more going on behind the scenes with the game than anyone from the community every really knew. There were those that "thought" they knew, and then there were the few of us that "actually" knew but couldn't say anything due to non-disclosure agreements. Another mis-step with Carbonated was the lack of transparency in a sense. They would tell the community about things that were changing....but never the why it was changing, or whose call it was to make that change, and or why they felt that particular change was the best deicison. It was instead more of a "here's what we think is best, here is what we are doing.....and you as a player can keep playing and roll with the changes, or, you can sign off.....but either way these are the changes being made".

It's all water under the bridge now. The game caused a lot of memories for it's players, good and bad alike. ONly thing we as players can do now is rejoice in those good memories, maybe harbor resentment for the bad ones (although I'd recommend letting it go...the world is negative enough as it is...no need to hold on to resentment over pixels on a screen), and leave it at that.

I don't think the game was on it's way out.... EVER! Did the customer base peak and level off? I'm sure it did. But the hard core were here to stay and fork out 50-100.00 a week in gems to be in the top 100 or better every week. No one (that paid weekly for the game) cared about ANYTHING but Turf. When all the circus side items started popping up in excess, that too was a turn off for the regulars and confusing for the new.

Secondly there seemed to be no effort to end cheating. It seemed that it was acceptable as long as it was obscure to the general RR public and deserving if you found it. The guys that were really good at it were being beat by weak, nutless non-driving hacks. A lot of good regulars were NOT going to pay for gems to lose to these sissy hacks, and moved on. you lost much of your loyal base to cheaters.

But I believe the real reason for the demise was the unnecessary payroll. When I go through my bank register, and multiply that by say a conservative 10% of the RR community, thats still respectable cha-ching. Too many chefs in the kitchen "entitled" to a fat check. You have to trim the fat if you want to survive. and no one boss with the balls to stop the hemorrhaging. kinda like progressive democratic socialism, everyone loses in the end. ALWAYS!

Now there are so many "ex-chefs" with legal RR entitlements, no one can take the software or programming and rebuild the game. they all want their cut for anything that resembles RR. Best game of it's kind EVER! and you cant do squat because you are all holding each other hostage in a vapor lock standoff.
