The benefit for Game Center friends is more co-stars for rewards and your friends may send you gifts!

They will pretty much replace the random people in the rankings, so the answer to your question is yes. However, when you reach the maximum number of fans you will always be #1 in your game, regardless if your friends also have maximum fans as well. :]

Yep, the advantages of Game Center friends are sending & receiving gifts, earning costar rewards, & dating without the stress of receiving a break up call if you don't manage to date them everyday. The downside to dating a GC friend is that you can't marry them at the moment but hopefully it is made possible in a future update
