Can anyone explain why everything in new york is still locked? I know that of course the studio would be locked when your not working on a project there but everything else is locked also.

This is because it is underdeveloped. Future updates will probably unlock some of those buildings. The Speak Easy opens briefly for the goal, Syd in NY but after that it closes it again
