how come on some accounts players are offered at extremely low prices. For example, on my wife’s phone it advertises opening day Bryce Harper for $1.99, and on reddit I just saw a Bellinger, xxx amount of gold, and xp for 4.99.

Probably has something to do with when you downloaded the app. New players get tempted by the lower max players on the cheap.
