Many have shared their opinions on the diamond life. It's obviously not for everyone, but for those on the fence for the rest of '19 and for '20, I think it's worth discussing.
I would've preferred to be gold for a few months, but I saw the writing on the wall fairly quick. Like many, I'm a tsb addict and essentially, playing once a week(Mondays) just wasn't going to cut it for me. My main 'issue' with diamond is FP. It is great and all, but I also felt compelled to get it fairly often. If I had been gold all year, I'm confident that I'd still be at $10 spent. Instead, I'm at level 7 in the All Stars Progression. I know that's peanuts for some, but I'm a grinder. I enjoy that aspect of gaming and that's my idea of fun. All that considered, I had an absolute blast and if I have a future in TSB, it will always be in diamond.
If you're not having fun, you're losing.

Diamond was great and I'm glad I made the jump.
Diamond is fun, but it's not worth the time/money.
Diamond was a terrible decision and I wish I had stayed silver/gold.

Pros
- D6 cycles for gold and evo
- “easier” in WoH - easier being if you can maintain getting top of the line closers, which is difficult in diamond
- players reach max value
- skills are easier to level
- chase players a lot easier
- do better in events with increased multiplier
Cons
- D6 cycles are so tedious, so many clicks and hours of playing. I hate Tourneys since it takes forever to mass play them (stupid specials tab)
- I never spent money until I went Diamond, FP is almost a necessity
- WoH you need to cycle cap a player if you plan on using him long term and rewards are no where near good enough for Diamond players
- insanely difficult to level players
- most of the gold I make goes towards a combination of WoH, skills, Mega boxes and rarely for chasing players.
Edits- CvC is terrible for a while
- upgrades are crazy expensive and 50k gold a pop to go from 84-100.
I’m sure I forgot some.
Thanks to those who put a lot of thought into the topic. I think many will find it helpful.
I love collecting players and I make no secret of my thirst for eye candy...and man, diamond is purdy! Capped legends/atgs are fairly common in the lower tiers, but you don't see them often in diamond. I know it's silly, but that stuff does matter to me.
The importance of free time during event hours on Mondays cannot be overstated IMO when it comes to going diamond or not. If you can't do 8-10 cycles almost every Monday then going Diamond is unlikely to be much fun unless you're willing to drop huge money on the game. You'll never stockpile enough xp to level players without all those cycles.
I have 2 or 3 hours at most on Monday and average only 2-5 cycles because of it. Diamond just isn't realistic for me unless they change the game drastically for 2020. I'm not going to play next year anyways but for other people it's something to consider.
Obviously, Glu isn't going to do this given their ultimate goal of converting you into a weekly subscriber player at diamond or pay to play at lower levels, but wouldn't this make the game more fun for some of you season long diamond burnouts? The goal is to keep user engagement high which converts into revenue - sounds like many are in the camp of trying diamond out this year and vowing to not go back. Seems like this could be one way to address the loyal users that just don't have the time to keep a competitive diamond team all year long while keeping them as customers.
To me, deciding what level to take your team, depends on three factors.
1. How much money you are able or willing to spend
If you don't want to spend any money on the game, or as little as possible, then diamond probably isn't the right level for you. I haven't spent money on gold purchases this year, but I have for Field Pass. I would rather spend my money on FP to help level up players I already have, as a opposed to spending it on gold/boxes chasing players that I might not get.
2. Amount of time playing the game
Grinding videos or bonus games/tournaments are both a huge investment of time. I have done both and don't feel that there is much of a difference. If you are on the app a lot to get free gold, the d6 cycle earns gold at a faster rate than videos (even at 8 per video). If you get gold by spending money, then it makes sense to have a silver/gold team.
3 Why you play the game- this is the most important to me
I like to play the game most days and contribute to my club and improve my team. When I was a silver/gold team, I felt like I was only focused on Mondays. I couldn't help my club much outside of WOH days, so I was really only playing once a week.
As a diamond team, I am able to improve my team every day, while also helping my club. Since I plan on playing the entire year, I view the challenge to build my diamond team as a marathon and not a sprint. I enjoy the process and strategy of building a team. It is cool to have a player reach their full rating at diamond. I know I won't be able to level up every player I get, and that I have to be selective with my resources.
After saying all of this, who knows what the 2020 version will look like. Cooldown, diamond leveling costs, rewards for cycling d6, game events, and new features will all impact my strategy for next year. I can't really say how I will play next year, but I will probably end up as a diamond team again next year. If you have never gone all the way to diamond, might as well give it a shot during the last month of this version. You could use all the gold you gain to buy boxes to chase players to use as keepers next year.
1. Money spent on the game
-If you don't have or want to spend money on the game, then having a diamond team probably isn't for you. Fast Pass is extremely helpful to leveling up diamond players. I haven't spend a bunch this year, but I would rather spend my money on FP to save on resources for players I already have, as opposed to buying gold/box bundles chasing a player I might not get. I was very picky with how I spent my gold when I was a silver/gold team. As a diamond team, I am more willing to spend my gold.
2. Time spent getting gold
-If you spend money to get gold for your team then this doesn't apply to you. I know that there are some players that don't want or have the time needed to earn free gold from videos or cycling d6. If you are willing to invest time in getting free gold, cycling d6 is more effective. I know it has been discussed on here in the past, but I really don't see much of a difference in watching videos and playing bonus games/tournaments. More bang for your buck with cycling d6...even when it is 2x gold videos.
3. Why you play the game
-I like the ability to improve my team and get club points during all events. WOH, bonus games, and Royale allow me to do both of these at the same time. When I had a silver/gold team, I really only did both of these on WOH days. It was easy for me to not play on non WOH days. I kept losing interest when only playing 1 day a week. I know that building a solid diamond team is a marathon and not a sprint. I enjoy the process and strategy of building a diamond team. It is not a big deal to me that I can't level up every new player I get. Being selective with how I spend my resources is required as a diamond team. It is a challenge to get a player to d10, but it is nice to see a player reach their full rating on the game.
Of course all of this could change with the new version coming out in a month and a half. Who knows what changes GLU will make to cooldown, diamond leveling costs, club events, and other game features. I don't have a plan in place for next year. Once I get a feel for the new version, I will develop a strategy, and probably end up with a diamond team again.
