    I’m going with preying on addiction.  I would bet that they have gone as far as to have full psychological profiles of their customer base and our tendencies built for their marketing department to exploit.  It is not accidental.

    Of course they are.

    I am involved sometimes in my current company's use of these analytics, or when they get to view other customer's use of analytics.

    My personal favorite here is when I get curved out of WoH, I magically get a great offer to "improve my team today!".  It is like clockwork.

    I've played WoH so much, this game knows what players I am going after, etc. Absolutely no doubt.

    It is brilliant, magical, and frightening all at the same time.

    Or maybe they're just using the same psychological playbook that casinos use (e.g., when to emotionally trigger their customers--negatively and positively) to maximize their profits. I think what we're seeing now is them relying on that negative button way too much. Casinos at least offer the hope of actual financial gains. This game offers no real tangible reward.
