Question team members not on friend list

I am confused. My team members are not on my friends list, so I have no way to communicate with them. Also, why doesn't the game show the real amount of skulls that people have. Some players show as 0 skulls and I know they have skulls.

Wish there was a blog site with detailed info on the game.
