I failed an event I never actually did?

So I'm at the point in the game where you work for Emily's boss and he makes you his new muse and Emily gets mad and teams up wit Aubrey. I had just just completed the "Life's a Beach" quest when I got a call from Perry saying Emily and Aubrey had left Angelo for his rival and that I was entered into this faceoff competition. So I exit the game, and then when I come back a few hours later I get a call from Perry saying "Sorry, Angelo lost to ____ AGAIN" but I had never even completed the quest. Has this happened to anyone else?
