This game provides a contest/puzzle update every seven days, and a larger update every few weeks. People are obsessed with it because of the high production values and the frequently added content. When it becomes financially unsupportable, all of that goes away. I've paid plenty to support it because it's been great and deserves support. Nothing is ever perfect, but KKH has been worth supporting.
Good things that people appreciate should be supported, or they change or disappear. Fact of life.
I'm not rich. I have other games, but this is the one I've chosen to make in-app purchases for. None of my other games even come close to the frequency of fun stuff added that this game does. In those other games, I don't get the full range of choices and perks because I don't pay for them.

My comment is in reference to the gifting comment. Not promoting hacking the game. My game isn't hacked and a lot of my clothes came from others gifting me. It's true that pressure to release updates frequently to keep people playing means that they don't have a lot of time for major updates, but I think they do really well. There are sometimes things for us to complain about but overall the game is really good and it would be a shame if it ends up like Stardom.
One thing I don't get though is how anyone would be able to buy the whole wardrobe for themselves, considering some games don't have the option to earn free kstars. It would cost way up in the hundreds! However we still get a lot for free like exclusive clothing almost every week, and I have been sent gifts super generously so I can't complain anyway. I feel guilty for deleting my guy game in the beginning when people had gifted me - that was not cool at all but I didn't see how I could play two games and it was stressing me a lot! I recently restarted the second game because I realised if I bought stars and got the private jet and a car straight away it was manageable

I agree that it would be incredibly expensive to buy the entire wardrobe of this game outright. And as I say, I have accepted gifts and sent them. So the whole subject of gifting/cheating is very tightly integrated and a muddle to sort through. There's one heck of a grey area here to be navigated. In my naive, Pollyanna world, most people would ideally accept some gifts and buy some kstars, and things would run smoothly. Obviously, that's not the world we live in.
I've paid money, and I've accepted gifts. I've been playing since the game launched, I do have the majority of the wardrobe items <though not all> and I waiver back and forth between buying the gift boxes occasionally and feeling annoyed sometimes when I do. I would say that I've been a good customer, despite giving and receiving gifts. It seemed to me that Glu turned a blind eye to the gifting because they wanted to encourage good feelings and happy customers. But maybe the gifting has begun to make a bigger dent in their revenues then they can easily deal with; businesses have to budget money in & money out just as households do. What choices does Glu have? Make some things ungiftable, kill the entire gifting thing? I don't know. Glad it isn't my problem to deal with.
If we say that people could all just get the hack and then we seem to be okay with hearing that idea, we're giving tacit support to the idea of ripping off a franchise that we enjoy. There are already a lot of people running around here who have never paid a cent, never will, and think there's nothing wrong with having every single perk the game offers, anyway. On another issue, if people don't want to support this game because their demands for help weren't met, that's unfortunate, but still slightly a different issue. I imagine that Glu gets an astounding amount of requests for help daily, for this game (and for their dinosaur hunting game, and for their zombie hunting game, etc etc etc etc etc). From what I've seen, they do try to respond. It helps if people organize themselves into threads with their game specs and be patient and persistent about their issues. (Easy for me to say, yes-- my game will open, and will play basically normally right now.) I've had some obnoxious glitches, though it seems I've been luckier than many. My problems have fallen into the larger groups of wide-spread issues, and Glu has fixed them pretty quickly.
There are platforms that Glu can't easily work with, there are jailbroken games that Glu can't or won't fix, there are free-offer walls and free offers sponsors that Glu has no influence over, and there probably are the occasions where Glu drops the ball because nothing is ever perfect. There seem to be billions of things that can go wrong between a giant successful game and its bazillion players. I still think that linking issues with customer service and the issue of hacked games is too convenient. I can see why people would quit if they weren't helped, and that sucks. I still feel like Glu is trying to be reasonable and do the right things, or I wouldn't be here myself.
So anyway, what the heck was my point? It's a grey area around the gifting, and I'm glad we aren't just agreeing to go cheat wholesale, and I'm sorry that people have left because they couldn't be helped. There are people I miss, too. I don't really support hacking and I just meant to express gratitude for the game and to appreciate glu. I do spend money on the game but I can't spend too much as I wouldn't be able to pay my bills I just think it's nice that the game offers something for all budgets, and I'm also really grateful to people who gift because they don't have to and it means I can wear outfits I wouldn't really be able to afford (and I only brought that up so I didn't sound like I was complaining too much about the cost of the wardrobe or being ungrateful for my gifts).
Mainly just wanted to say good update, and I hope the game is able to stick around for a long time although I see there are potential issues with that.

Wow, I must have been knee deep in the Support thread to have missed this. I quoted Luz, because I agree with everything she said, even the rant parts, because that's how I feel.
I can't tell you how much I've been conflicted, yes, I received gifts from people known to have the hack. I have friends with it. And you know what, they'd send me a gift now and then and I would turn right around and buy stars. I don't want to put in print how much I've spent, but just pick an 'oh wow' figure you can live with but raise your eyebrow over, and then remember I have 2 other games. Being Irish I am a big ball of Irish Catholic Guilt over just about everything. So, I feel better buying stars, after receiving a gift from a friend.
The fact that Glu has even set up a subforum for the developement of friend relationships and gifting, shows they know people will gift, and they look the other way. A good number of people with the hack, are very helpful in the forum, not troublemakers, and so they're members of the forum just like the rest of us.
It's the 'in your face' I'm gifting everything because I have the hack' and the fact that not enough players support the game that is causing a problem.
I love getting gifts. I give gifts. But the paying portion of players has to increase in order to continue to get more product, updates, and staff to handle things. If everyone who has ever posted about a glitch in their game, or lost Experience Points, went down a level or some other problem - had purchased the smallest package of stars I think the updates would be more inclusive, glitches would be fixed faster, the whole experience would so vastly improve. When you are doing well, you give more. I did the math, under the 5$ from each player plan....let's just say I've paid for over 75 of us, (and I figured I should stop adding before I get sick. Plus I have to cut back I know) but that doesn't make a dent in the cost of things. Seriously, if everyone just bought a small star pack, I think things would just improve tremendously.
I hope they always include some giftable things, and some things you have to buy for yourself. I've rambled, time for coffee, just know I love everyone here, but I want to leave this with one last thought.
Notice how for a measly 5$ package of stars, you go commercial free? Well, I think the games were really designed to be commercial free, but business sense prevailed, and they came up with the 5$ pack of stars. Gives them revenue, doesn't break anyone and gives the commercial free game. So in theory, if eveyone ponied up to remove the ads, I think Glu would be sitting pretty. ANd the fact that it removes the ads and improves game play a thousand percent, plus stars.....all for 5 bucks?

this game made Glu 43 million dollars in the first quarter after release. it turned their negative profits from the previous quarter into a 270% gain. even if Kim took half of that, that's still 20 million in a 3 month span. then it made 83 million the next quarter. ladies & gents SOMEBODY bought something.
they are making hand over fist. they certainly have a few pennies under the couch cushions to afford a well staffed support team.

Seriously, though, I won't pretend I can personally understand Glu's finances, and why they do what they do. I've made assumptions that obviously may be right or wrong. The career I've been in for 15 years has given me a bad feeling for non-payers/defaulters and institutions/governments/people who want to take your work from you for free. And at the end of the day, we each have to justify our behavior to our own selves. Whether or not Glu makes out like a bandit from KKH, they've created an unusually good product, and it's worth something. I've been content giving them their due. But it's still not a great thought that I'm paying more & more for my fun because other people won't pay at all.

This discussion hasn't been meant to single anyone out for criticism. Many of us feel conflicted about what we pay Glu for, and what we get from them for free. I like the people who frequent this forum, and I wouldn't want anyone to feel vilified and leave.
No matter what, Glu has given away <tolerated the taking of?> a lot of desirable free stuff with the gifting, and by allowing weekend events to be won by diligent playing alone. When the events seemed to be getting too hard and edging into requiring money to be spent even by relatively experienced players, we all flipped out about it, and they eased things back in response. They're a company I like and want to see succeed. I want them to have money to produce new stuff I'll play. Do they have enough customer support? Good enough customer support? I don't know much about it. There certainly are plenty of issues to keep any customer support team more than busy. That's all I can say.
Honestly there is no reason to worry KKH is a huge hit, and with the next celebritys games being released Glu will greatly expand their empire in mobile gaming.
There will always be people to pay if they deliver a product with quality, originality and creativity and if the company is willing to consider the views of fandom.
The biggest mistake in the games industry is the lack of attention to the needs of players when companies become greedy and try to sell bad products with the name of a successful franchise by delivering a product far short of expectations.
Adding new celebritys to their game list Glu will attract new audiences, if they can make a connection between KKH and the next games that keeps an audience that already play and can bring new players to the "old games".
Cheating has always existed, but limited resources in gameplay or lead to higher prices isn't a smart decision because a lot of people pay and believe Kim doesn't receive nearly half of the profits.
I'm certainly not worried for Glu or anything. I just mean that I don't begrudge them the wild success with KKH. There are other companies I'm forced to pay for things, much less happily.
I made a correlation between the seeming increase in large-scale gifters showing up around here and Glu's recent changes in giftable-status of the clothes from the most recent update.
Time will certainly tell if the company is meeting the needs of players.

this game made Glu 43 million dollars in the first quarter after release. it turned their negative profits from the previous quarter into a 270% gain. even if Kim took half of that, that's still 20 million in a 3 month span. then it made 83 million the next quarter. ladies & gents SOMEBODY bought something.
they are making hand over fist. they certainly have a few pennies under the couch cushions to afford a well staffed support team.

Seriously, though, I won't pretend I can personally understand Glu's finances, and why they do what they do. I've made assumptions that obviously may be right or wrong. The career I've been in for 15 years has given me a bad feeling for non-payers/defaulters and institutions/governments/people who want to take your work from you for free. And at the end of the day, we each have to justify our behavior to our own selves. Whether or not Glu makes out like a bandit from KKH, they've created an unusually good product, and it's worth something. I've been content giving them their due. But it's still not a great thought that I'm paying more & more for my fun because other people won't pay at all.

Edited to Add, going back to see what was wondered about Alkoholiks. Oh, but about my whole Get rid of the ads for 5$ originally started out as my suggestion whenever people had problems crashing when the ads came on. And i guess it morphed just now because everyone is having problems and saying it's because they need to hire more support staff/developers etc..
I'm going to stop my offtopic trail and go have a midori in Apropos. That usually accompanies the sitting there not saying anything, but it's usually a wallbanger.
But I second everything Luz said about how people feel about you. You have more of an admiration society than you know. (I know. Apple P takes attendance.

No matter what, Glu has given away <tolerated the taking of?> a lot of desirable free stuff with the gifting, and by allowing weekend events to be won by diligent playing alone. When the events seemed to be getting too hard and edging into requiring money to be spent even by relatively experienced players, we all flipped out about it, and they eased things back in response. They're a company I like and want to see succeed. I want them to have money to produce new stuff I'll play. Do they have enough customer support? Good enough customer support? I don't know much about it. There certainly are plenty of issues to keep any customer support team more than busy. That's all I can say.

There will always be people to pay if they deliver a product with quality, originality and creativity and if the company is willing to consider the views of fandom.
The biggest mistake in the games industry is the lack of attention to the needs of players when companies become greedy and try to sell bad products with the name of a successful franchise by delivering a product far short of expectations.
Adding new celebritys to their game list Glu will attract new audiences, if they can make a connection between KKH and the next games that keeps an audience that already play and can bring new players to the "old games".
Cheating has always existed, but limited resources in gameplay or lead to higher prices isn't a smart decision because a lot of people pay and believe Kim doesn't receive nearly half of the profits.
I'm certainly not worried for Glu or anything. I just mean that I don't begrudge them the wild success with KKH. There are other companies I'm forced to pay for things, much less happily.
I made a correlation between the seeming increase in large-scale gifters showing up around here and Glu's recent changes in giftable-status of the clothes from the most recent update.
Time will certainly tell if the company is meeting the needs of players.
