I actually get this issue all the time. Mostly during WOH and Slugfest. I have tried switching from Wifi to 4G and vice versa. 90% of the time it doesn't mess with my progress, but every so often it resets my progress and I have to start over.

It has definitely gotten harder since last week. The level 6 sluggers are much higher rated. I've found that you should use your best slugger at 6-8, as it is the highest rated slugger, and then it goes back down. It takes much more effort and time than before, but still possible to cycle. Extremely frustrating though.

I've had issues all day as well. Along with multiple club members. Mine were freezing issues, and the game restarting. Hopefully there will be an update.
