Building an all legend gold team using WOH and Field Pass (Update- team completed)

Prior to last week I was building resources to move to platinum and eventually diamond.  I had read a bunch of posts, particularly by @DFBB, about cycle capping players and it seemed like a fun challenge.  However mid-way through last week, after legends were introduced to WOH, I decided to change course and see if I could build an all legend team using the cycle cap concept, but at the gold level.

Today was my first shot and it went well.  It turns out, with minimal starting lxp, you can cycle cap the HOF player at gold (with Field Pass) in 7 cycles.  I just squeaked my 7th cycle in 3 minutes before the deadline to cap Scioscia.  If I remember correctly after the first cycle I had enough lxp to move him to S2, then S8, G1, G4, G6, G8 and finally cap.

Now I can hardly wait until next week to see who the reward player is... sounds weird to say it but (excluding the upcoming holiday) I’m going to be spending my weekends looking forward to Monday!

I am hoping that we have double gold to "assist" in your run

Yeah, cycle capping Scioscia yesterday ended up working out pretty well. I only had about 160k legend xp which was enough to get him to like P7, then cycled twice and paid the gold/evo to go to D1 just to speed things up a bit and then cycled all the way to D10. With the LXP plus duplicate player rewards for each cycle I had nearly as much as much LXP as when I had started. So, this works out pretty well and I'll definitely be in position to do it again next week and probably not have to cycle so many times either (which is good, yesterday was a grind).

Good stuff @CalNate! I was so excited about yesterday because I was in position to cycle cap and was totally prepared to be disappointed. Fortunately, things worked out okay.
Adding to @JEDDDOGGY's post, I was very surprised at the amount of duplicate lxp that we received. I felt that I had to be super choosy about which legend to cycle cap, but as it turns out, I'm already in position to cycle cap again next Monday.

I'm just sitting here with a 😊 while drinking my haterade 😉 I sure wish I hadn't misused every last drop of lxp I ever had before yesterday 🤮🤕

@DFBB Yeah, I was surprised too. Has me wondering about tomorrow.

Anyone know trade in values for a prime for Bronze & Silver? Wondering if you would make out better if you spent the 6k or whatever it is to take the player to Silver (not planning to cycle cap if it's a 390).

@JEDDDOGGY Last weds, I started Ervin at p5 and cycle capped. Even w/o FP, I only had 69k pxp less than what I started with.

@DFBB there's no benefit for me to cycle cap a 390 that, if similar to last week, won't even get bonus points the next day. Don't wanna spend 69k pxp on that. What I'm wondering is if I'll gain more prime xp by making the 6k investment to take him to silver tier. If the trade in value is 1k more in silver than it is in bronze it's a no-brainer, I suppose.

It took me 4 hours and too much gold to cycle HOF once -- and my team is a 131K gold team, so not stellar but not awful either.  I can't even think about cycle capping, and I don't even get how others at gold level could consider it.  Maybe I've just had some bad RNG lately.

Hah! Everyone hates on Ervin, but he's my best cvc player. I don't have any primes that are in silver so I'm not sure. I'll ask around though.

my s10 prime DJ(390) has a trade in value of 2907 and my s10 prime Guerrero(400) has a trade value of 2992.

Should give you some sort of an idea
First, congrats on not being the 1st person to ask this question.

@DFBB Ervin was a great one for CvC but there's no way in hell I'm competing in my club for anything CvC related LOL so he wasn't something I wanted to spend time or resources on. I definitely see the benefit to having CvC specialists if you need them. We all play the game differently so one man's trash is another man's treasure, I guess!

Also, looks like I'd be smart to take the reward player to silver tomorrow then. That answers my question. Thanks @bayoubengal

And in this case, he was everyone else's trash and just my treasure. lol

Here’s what I have so far.  I didn’t realize you diamond players could cycle-cap legends as easily.  I thought my post would make you long for the days of gold level— ha!  I picked up Baines a few weeks ago and spent a small fortune in gold to level him.  I got Mathews last week from one of the two boxes that came with my field pass.

I would guess that is still the one advantage in gold, where if you pull a legend from outside of WOH you still have some hope of leveling him.  Outside of that, looks like diamond is still the place to be.

On another note-  if anyone has a really strong reset club that needs one for Monday’s, let me know.  I keep joining clubs that claim to be “top” reset clubs and I end up scoring half the points while 1/3rd of the guys barely play (I’ve hit between 250-350M in each of the last three weeks).  I’d love to be in a club with a bunch of guys who all really grind on WOH Mondays.

So I get an idea of what to expect, how much lxp is the trade in value of a G10 and D10 legend player?

Thought I’d do an update since my last post on this.  Added Posada from boxes last week along with Rizzuto and Wilson from WoH.  I need a legend at 1B and a third outfielder and I’ll have all the positions filled.

Still need quite a few to finish off my active roster, but it’s been a ton of fun putting this together.  This game has fully activated my OCD.  I’m completely hooked.

Here’s hoping for a 470 legend  Eddie Murray as the WoH reward next week!

A couple days late on posting this- but finally finished up on Monday  After missing out on Kruk (after opening more than 100 boxes) a couple weeks ago, I finally landed a 1B in Cooper this week (on the 6th box).

It was fun to build but now that I’m done, I’m trying to figure out the next step.  Contemplating a move to diamond; but not sure how that will work. I don’t love the thought of abandoning all these legends.  I’m also not crazy about the $20 per week weekday FP.  The plan is to hold for now and see how things play out.

A team full of legends does not scream "go diamond" bro 😂 I would stay where you're at and make us diamond guys jealous, at least for a while to hoard resources 😉

@CalNate Wanna trade teams? I’m in diamond and play with no legends and 2 d10 primes. Hosmer at d10 and mays will be there Monday. Pretty much the only way to get a prime or legend capped is through woh. Next year gold is my resting spot

I'm in the same position calnate is in. Once you have an almost full team of legends capped its kinda like...ok now what?  People seem to think OMG capped legends....I'm going to be honest I could care less if a player is a legend or a bxp, I just want to always progressively get better. You also cant tell me that any gold team is better then a diamond team that I stacked. Granted its a TON of work to get there, leveling players from boxes becomes obsolete.......BUUUT ....if you can level 1-2 players a week through WOH, then save resources for the next cycle....how is leveling players through boxes better? TBH its more inefficient because the drop rate, then your spending all your gold on getting the players.

Maybe I'm missing something. TBH I like the idea of getting and leveling players through WOH better then pulling players in boxes.

NOT to mention technically you can level players not through WOH with 30 percent discount, will it take forever .....YES.....ever try improving a max mythic geared WOW character, you can go a month of playing 40+ hours a week before you get a 5% upgrade.  The challenge isn't what bothers me, its sitting status quo because I have a shiny team of "legends"

@MoenPDC you are absolutely correct, it just comes down to how much time you have to play this game every day. For about 2 months I was able to find more than enough time to cycle cap every Monday and Wednesday, but that wasn't sustainable in my life. Life caught up to me at the same time walk-off hero difficulties increased, which left me in a cycle of not having enough time to cycle cap and also struggling to earn enough resources to level box players. That left me playing hundreds or thousands of bonus games every day to cycle d6 enough just to buy mega pxp boxes. That gets boring 🤣 I can probably still cycle cap classic, but that does nothing for me. So, in the end, it just depends on how much time you can,and are willing to, put into the game.

RE strong reset club on Mondays:  send me a PM....if you can do at least 300m I got a spot for you.

    If I can suggest something.

This forum is dominated by team builders....guys who do what is best for their teams, resource building and personal gains.  Can I suggest that you take your team and go compete.

For a new challenge, go take that team and put it to the test.  That squad is good enough for a club that has "top club" in the title.  Go put those horses to work!!!  I guarantee you won't be bored and will find your club might not be as complete as you thought (platoon for CVC yet with double blowout players, etc?!)

There are a lot of ways to play this game......in a vacuum team building is not my personal favourite....get out there and put that team to the test is my suggestion!
