I know it sounds ridiculous, but when I worry about something I have nightmares and has been so for the last two nights and then I can't go back to sleep, my immunity fell then I got the flu today. I am a freak!
Ok, I am an idiot. Plain and simple. I ALWAYS tell people not to gift a friend till you work with them. Always, always, always. So, this morning a rl friend popped up in my Game Center, and it wasn't time for the event yet,what did I do? Earrings. I sent her 2 pair of earrings. THen OMG, what did I do, poppped into my head. I chanted "plwase let them be star gifts. Please let them be star gifts: but no. I'm now sitting with 300 Heart points on my new love interest. NO It's not what I wanted!!! How could I do that? Ugh. so now I can see her in the game at parties, or work with her but get no professional points with her. Ugh. Stoopid Stoopid Stoopid. I should NOT touch the game before I put my brain into drive.

I was fuming this morning wasting 240 stars on the gift boxes and practically nothing to show for it. I only really spend that much on the boxes if there's something I covet so much (that dress and watch!).
I was just about to start venting in Hookah when I decided to turn it around and post something positive here instead.
On the bright side, I love the exclusive hair I bought for Kim's birthday on Wednesday, my doll is going to wear it everyday! Halloween is also coming up and I'm so excited for it, I missed it last year as I first stared playing in the second week of November. Not that I'll have any kstars to spend after this morning but oh well. (I'm not gritting my teeth, honestly lol!).
Plus, one of my best friends is visiting this weekend we were best friends all the way through university and now we don't get to see each other much as we live on opposite sides of the country. AmyT - I have a long time friend visiting this weekend too. We went to University together, stayed close through graduate school, and years later we were even colleagues when we both were hired as Professors at a University in VA. I've known her 20 years. She's bringing her two dogs with her; one is the brother of my shih tzu and the other is the son of my Mothers shih tzu. So it's a big family reunion too. LOL. There's a huge Pet Expo downtown this weekend. There will be exhibitions, contests, things to buy, etc. We are going to participate in the Halloween parade of dogs - it's also a contest for the best costume.
I wasted way too many k stars trying to get the dress. Normally I don't let it bother me but this Time I am ticked because I wasted way too many and opened so many Kash boxes.

I'll post some pictures of the doggy parade. I'm sure it will be adorable. My friend arrived about two hours ago and we are currently watching Greys Anatomy with two sleeping dogs on each of our laps.
As for teaching, my specialities are Persuasion, Public Speaking, and Rhetorical Criticsm but I also teach interpersonal communication, Small Group Communication, intercultural Communication, etc. I left my position to care for my Nana for several months as she was dying -- her biggest fear was going to a nursing home so I made sure we kept her in her home. After she passed away and I handled her estate it was in the middle of a school year so I got my Real Estate license to keep me busy until the next school year. However I did so well in real estate that I now do that full time and just teach the occasional class.
Wow Holly, that was very noble of you to stop work to care for your grandmother. You come across so helpful and sweet on the forum so it's no surprise! Cool, Holly, but was it hard to transition between from a professor to real estate? It's very different, but nice that you're still doing a bit of your old career.
I had to change my job scope too, and kinda miss my old job now. I'm was also in the education career, though I don't teach adults like you heh! But now I face the computer all the time!
Reading your posts girls, I got thinking how life always leads us to different paths of those we planned. Since my teenage years I always wanted to be an academic researcher. During my graduation years I was a research assistant of one of my teachers... Well maybe one day I'll come back to that world.

My Nana was a remarkable woman. During WWII, when the creation of a Women's Auxiliary Army was announced, my Nana was one of the first to enlist and was in the very first training group of the WAAC. She divorced a deadbeat husband in the 50s, when divorce was so rare in the South that parents wouldn't allow their children to play with my Mom and her siblings because their Mom was a divorcee. She raised three kids on her own, worked with computers when they were so new that one machine filled an entire room, and took in every one of her grandchildren at some point in their lives. I lived with her during the summers of my university years. She worked so hard and gave to her family with her every breath. I would have done anything to make her life easier and being able to care for her in her final months was a honor. I miss her every day.
Fairouz, my friend who is visiting, loved my Nana too. During college my Nana would mail me the best care packages. She'd send essentials like toothpaste, deodorant, and dryer sheets; all items that you need but hate spending your money on when you're a nearly broke University student. She'd also include a batch of homemade cookies that I would share with my friends. When I moved back to Virigina to care for my Nana, Fairouz would make the two hour drive down every couple of weeks to visit us and give me a little break.
We haven't completely finalized the costume selection for the parade. Fairouz brought two options for her dogs. My GoldenDoodle is going as a vintage gangster. I haven't decided if my Maltese will behave well enough to go. She's a rambunctious puppy.

I did a ton of grinding before Fairouz got here and really focused on the Weekend Event gigs. I finished earning all the items this morning. Now I don't have to sneak KKH this weekend. Lol
Yes. the transition from being a Professor to being a Realtor was a challenge. The biggest shift was the lack of control. As a Professor, I was completely "in charge." I set the schedule and determined my workload. As a Realtor, it's all about your clients' schedules and their wants/needs. I am able to earn considerably more money as a Realtor but there are definitely things I miss about life as an Academic.
Holly your grandmother sounds like a courageous woman, that's such a bittersweet story. It's nice that you have such fond memories of her. Your bff sounds like a great friend!

I love hearing about everyone's back stories Gosh, there's a lot of teachers/academics on the forum. I know what you mean Vats, about life leading us on different paths than we planned. I always wanted to get into research too. Unfortunately however, after I finished my law degree it was easier to get sponsorship to practice law rather than research and do a masters. I really wanted to research disability law as that's what I based my dissertation on.
I ended up working as a personal injury paralegal for a while after uni but I hated it! It was just about bonuses for targets and that's definitely not why I studied law. I'm now due to finish my LPC and I'm specialising in Wills and Probate. I also volunteer at a free legal advice centre on afternoon a week where the more marginalised people of society can have access to legal representation. Some would have difficulties otherwise due to the cuts in legal aid in the UK. If there were paid roles in this area I'd love to work there full time but unfortunately it's mostly pro bono work. Although I'm a hippy at heart, that wouldn't pay the bills!

When Holly brought about her grandmother and WWII, I remembered of my grandparents' story, that fits perfectly in this matter of life leading us to different paths.
The parents of my grandmother came from Germany and when they were about to return the second war began.
My grandfather had a fiancée, and during the time he served in the army they lost contact because the letters of his fiancée ended up being received by another guy with the same name, which is very strange because my grandfather had an unusual name and our last name is quite rare outside of the German colonization zone.
So my grandparents met each other and the rest is history ... So Amy I think we should believe that our deviations will lead us to something bigger!

I was busy the entire the day with stuffs and I wanted to de-stress by playing KKH. So I tried to get that silver dress from the gift box and my set of boxes were crazy lousy (I posted in the weekend thread). Then I was playing for Jax and was finding people to invite for parties, I scrolled my friend list and the 2nd scroll I did might have accidentally clicked on the "x" beside his girlfriend's name and because I was scrolling fast I didn't notice and my 3rd scroll clicked "yes" so, screw me. This has happened numerous times while scrolling with different NPCs. Why did it have to be his girlfriend, all that hard work. This is the 3rd time Jax is rekindling his relationship with Sophie.
I'm dumb, I chased it. I had to open TWENTY more boxes to get the dress. That makes my total expenditure 1360 KStars for a stupid virtual dress. That's more than the largest pack of b l o o d y KStars there, gone. I think at some point in my life I'm calling it quits with this game lol. My gift boxes were just TERRIBLE and Glu seems stubborn.
You know Nai you just wanted something and that's ok, I already talk about those boxes here a billion times and I was crucified for giving my opinion on them. Then it is what it is, and unfortunately Glu will not change, unless the players change.
Yeah Vats, I agree. I had very good control previously, I was persistent on not opening gift boxes til Glu changed. But then recently I was kinda stressed out in real life and I just needed some "fun" so I let myself loose.
It is much like gambling, ok the next box I open I'm going to get it, oh darn not this box, it's the next one for sure, what, really not this either, it HAS to be the next one. You know this kind of mentality, how I talk myself into opening more and more.
I attended a Pet Expo in Pittsburgh on Sunday. There was a Halloween pet parade and costume contest. There were about 60 entries in the Contest. Sullivan, My GoldenDoodle, was dressed as a 1940s era Gangster. My boyfriend was dressed in a similar costume and walked Sully in the parade & contest. The audience cheered for each contestant and the finalists were chosen based on how loudly the crowd cheered. There were three finalists and the audience cheered again but the final decision was from a teenage "Judge." Sully had the loudest cheers but the Judge awarded first place to a one-eyed cat who was dressed as a Pirate. We were disappointed but the rest of the afternoon people stopped us and told us that Sully was "robbed." So my boy was the real winner :-)
Fairouz, one of dearest and oldest friends, came up for the weekend. She brought her two Shih Tzus. She dressed them in Chinese coats for the parade. My Mom has a Maltese and a Morkie. She dressed them as a bumblebee and a ladybug.
The other great thing about Fairouz bringing her dogs is that they are each related to one of my dogs & one of my Mom's dogs. The picture of the gray & white shih Tzu is my dog, Szechuan. The white Maltese is my puppy named Sophie. We didn't take her to the Pet Expo because I thought it would be overwhelming for her; plus we always had five dogs and just four people in our group.
The doggy parade is adorable. I love Sully. Looks like my dog Max a little. Except Max is a cross between a border collie, Old English Sheepdog, and a number of other things. Dogs are wonderful.
Nai, I'm so sorry you had to chase the dress, but you know, we love the game, and that dress is sensational. I decided AppleP can chase her whims, and the Androids well, they're happy with the earners. lol But don't ever let the game get you down. You're awesome and you can't walk away. We'll lock the door. When an item pops up in the GBs, Set a figure of how much you'll spend in Stars trying for it. That helps me.

I was busy the entire the day with stuffs and I wanted to de-stress by playing KKH. So I tried to get that silver dress from the gift box and my set of boxes were crazy lousy (I posted in the weekend thread). Then I was playing for Jax and was finding people to invite for parties, I scrolled my friend list and the 2nd scroll I did might have accidentally clicked on the "x" beside his girlfriend's name and because I was scrolling fast I didn't notice and my 3rd scroll clicked "yes" so, screw me. This has happened numerous times while scrolling with different NPCs. Why did it have to be his girlfriend, all that hard work. This is the 3rd time Jax is rekindling his relationship with Sophie.
Sorry about Jax and Sophie, and I'll hold you in my arms to make sure that you won't bet on those cursed boxes ever again!

I'm dumb, I chased it. I had to open TWENTY more boxes to get the dress. That makes my total expenditure 1360 KStars for a stupid virtual dress. That's more than the largest pack of b l o o d y KStars there, gone. I think at some point in my life I'm calling it quits with this game lol. My gift boxes were just TERRIBLE and Glu seems stubborn.
It is much like gambling, ok the next box I open I'm going to get it, oh darn not this box, it's the next one for sure, what, really not this either, it HAS to be the next one. You know this kind of mentality, how I talk myself into opening more and more.

The other great thing about Fairouz bringing her dogs is that they are each related to one of my dogs & one of my Mom's dogs. The picture of the gray & white shih Tzu is my dog, Szechuan. The white Maltese is my puppy named Sophie. We didn't take her to the Pet Expo because I thought it would be overwhelming for her; plus we always had five dogs and just four people in our group.
